Hey there, fellow quilters! December's creeping up faster than we'd like, and if you're anything like me, you're probably staring at your fabric stash wondering how to turn those beautiful pieces into something truly magical for the holidays. Well, grab your favorite mug of cocoa because I've got some fantastic news: we're launching a Christmas work-along pattern that'll have you creating stunning vintage-inspired blocks from now through the new year!
Here at Countryside General Stores LLC, we're always looking for ways to bring our quilting community together, whether you're joining us locally here in Missouri or connecting from wherever life has planted you. Our Countryside Experience Podcast has been the heart of this community, and we're excited to extend that same welcoming spirit to this special holiday project through our Countryside Quilts brand.
There's something absolutely magical about vintage Christmas quilts: they carry stories, warmth, and that cozy nostalgia that makes the holidays feel extra special. These aren't just quilts; they're heirlooms in the making. And the best part? You don't need to be a master quilter to create something beautiful.
Vintage-inspired blocks work because they focus on classic techniques and timeless designs. Think traditional stars, simple appliqué shapes like holly leaves and berries, charming houses with snow-covered roofs, and those adorable Christmas trees that somehow always make us smile. These patterns have been tested by generations of quilters, so you know they're going to work.

We've curated over 25 vintage-inspired Christmas blocks that range from beginner-friendly to "challenge accepted" level. Here's what you can expect:
Classic Stars & Snowflakes: These are perfect starter blocks. The Carpenter's Star block is especially meaningful for Christmas: it symbolizes the Star of Bethlehem and works up beautifully in traditional reds, greens, and creams. We've also included several snowflake variations that look stunning in whites and blues.
Charming Christmas Scenes: Our collection features delightful house blocks reminiscent of Christmas villages, complete with techniques for adding "snow" to rooftops using white fabric scraps. The vintage truck carrying Christmas trees block has become a real favorite: it's got just enough detail to be interesting without being overwhelming.
Traditional Appliqué Elements: Holly and berries, Christmas bells, and simple ornament shapes are included. These blocks are fantastic for using up those smaller fabric scraps and give you a chance to practice your appliqué skills in a low-pressure way.
Tree Blocks Galore: From simple pine tree piecing to more complex evergreen designs, we've got tree blocks for every skill level. These are particularly satisfying because they come together quickly and always look impressive.
One of the things I love most about this work-along is how perfectly it works with whatever fabrics you already have on hand. Got a collection of red and green scraps from years of quilting? Perfect. Have some vintage-reproduction prints you've been saving for just the right project? Even better.

Here at Countryside Quilts, we're big believers in sustainable quilting. This project is designed to help you use up those smaller pieces that are too beautiful to throw away but too small for a full quilt. We'll show you techniques for:
What makes this work-along really special is the community aspect. On our Countryside Experience Podcast, we'll be featuring live-along updates, sharing progress from quilters both locally and around the country, and offering tips and tricks as we all work through the blocks together.
We're encouraging everyone to share their progress on social media using #CountrysideChristmasAlong. Whether you're posting pictures of your fabric selections, your completed blocks, or even your "learning moments" (we all have them!), this community support makes the whole experience more enjoyable.
If you're local to Missouri, we'll be hosting in-person work-along sessions at our Jefferson City location. There's nothing quite like the energy of quilters working together, sharing stories, and helping each other through tricky techniques. For our online community, we'll be hosting virtual check-ins through the podcast and our social media channels.
We've organized the 25+ blocks into a manageable monthly schedule that respects busy holiday schedules while keeping you engaged:
Weeks 1-2: Foundation blocks including basic stars and simple tree shapes. These set the tone for your quilt and give you a chance to establish your color palette.
Weeks 3-4: Appliqué elements and house blocks. This is where your quilt starts to develop personality and charm.
Weeks 5-6: More complex piecing with intermediate-level blocks. By this point, you've hit your rhythm and are ready for a bit more challenge.
Weeks 7-8: Specialty blocks and finishing techniques, including borders and sashing options.

Let's be realistic: the holidays are busy! This work-along is designed to be flexible. If you miss a week, don't worry. The beauty of block-based quilts is that you can work at your own pace and still end up with something beautiful.
Time-Saving Strategies:
Skill-Building Approach: Each block introduces or reinforces specific techniques. By the end of the work-along, you'll have improved your piecing accuracy, tried new appliqué methods, and gained confidence in color placement.
Not everyone needs (or wants) a full-size quilt, and that's perfectly okay! This block collection is versatile enough to become:
