If you are new to beginner quilting, pre-cut fabrics are your best friend. Specifically, "Charm Packs": those adorable bundles of 5-inch squares that come perfectly coordinated. The 3 Times the Charm pattern (and the accompanying book series) is a absolute game-changer for new makers.
The beauty of this pattern is that most of the work is already done. Since the squares are pre-cut to 5 inches, you spend less time at the cutting mat and more time at the sewing machine. The pattern shows you how to take these squares and arrange them into stunning, cohesive designs.
Each pattern in the series is shown in three different fabric styles, helping you visualize how a simple change in color or print can completely transform a quilt. It’s one of those easy quilt patterns that looks much more complicated than it actually is.

Ready to try something that feels a little more "custom"? The Star Bloom pattern is a fantastic choice for what we call the "Advanced Beginner." It’s still very much within reach, but it introduces you to slightly more interesting shapes.
While it looks like a field of flowers and stars, the construction is very logical. It’s one of those quilt patterns that helps you practice your "points": that satisfying moment when two corners meet perfectly. Plus, Star Bloom is fantastic for showing off your favorite designer fabric collections. If you’ve fallen in love with a particular floral line or a set of cowboy prints, this pattern gives those fabrics the space they need to shine.
Don't be intimidated by the slightly curved look of some Star Bloom variations; with the right guidance and a slow pace on your sewing machine, you'll be a pro in no time!
