Vintage Textile Soak — the details
Short version: Countryside Quilts® Vintage Textile Soak is an oxygen-based soak for vintage quilts and cotton or linen heirlooms. It lifts yellowing, storage stains and age stains with no chlorine bleach, phosphates, dyes, fragrance or optical brighteners. $16.99 for a 1 lb pouch with a 60 mL scoop, blended in small batches in Jefferson City, MO.
What’s in the pouch
One pouch covers one to two full quilt soaks, or many smaller pieces like linens and gowns. Every pouch carries a lot number and best-by date.
Ingredients — all three
When the powder dissolves in warm water it releases active oxygen, which lifts stains out of the fibers slowly over hours instead of the harshness of chlorine.
No chlorine bleach, no phosphates, no dyes, no fragrance, no optical brighteners.
Made for — and not for
Use it on: vintage and antique quilts, cotton and linen heirlooms, yellowed christening gowns, embroidered table linens, feed sacks and flour-sack cloth, storage and age stains.
Don’t use it on: silk, wool, leather, pieces with metal fasteners, or anything that isn’t colorfast.
Always test colorfastness on a hidden corner first.
Directions
Heavy stains do best with an overnight soak. Read and follow all label directions and cautions.
Common questions
Will it damage my vintage quilt?
It was designed for vintage quilts. Oxygen cleaning is the gentle end of the spectrum, with no chlorine, brighteners or fragrance left in the fibers. Some antique dyes can still run in any soak, so always test colorfastness first.
Can I use it in my washing machine?
It’s a soak, not a detergent. For sturdy everyday cottons you can add a scoop to a machine soak cycle, but heirloom pieces belong in a washtub and should be dried flat.
Why not store it in an airtight glass container?
The active ingredient gives off a little oxygen over time, which is what makes it work. Keep it in its resealable pouch, tightly closed, in a cool, dry place.
How is it different from big-box oxygen cleaners?
The chemistry is related, but this blend is made for delicate, aged natural fibers: no fillers, fragrance or dyes, and buffered to stay gentle through long soaks. It’s blended, packed and lot-traced in small batches in Jefferson City, MO.
Is it safe around kids and pets?
Like any cleaning product, store it out of reach of children and pets. Caution and first-aid details are printed on every pouch. Once a textile is rinsed clear and dried, no active residue remains.
